Apple Day 2008
By Mary Dutton
Cold, Windy and very wet!
Did we let any this dampen our spirits, no we did not. Apple Day in the vale went on as usual. A good time was had by all. It was lovely to see some of our usual apple day people and to welcome the new folk trying apple day for first time. As an extra this year we had some of Stockport's recylcing team making things with some of the children.
As always Pete was on the press the apple juice flowed sweetly. I am sure it tastes better as the years go on. Home made soup, apple and butter bean stew, yes you read right apple and butter bean, along with the Apple and cheese pie. All I am going to say is if you haven't tried it don't knock it.
As we were wet anyway we didn't have to coax the young ones as much to dunk for an apple some adults as well, I missed my turn for some reason this year.
Now the serious stuff the apple peeling competition, is Andrew allowed to win? with his 4 ft something peel, this man needs to get a life and stop staying in practising all year, there's always next year I suppose.
Apples too numerous to mention all grown in Britain it is surprising just how they vary in taste and texture, and shape for that matter. Tell you all completely different from those you see all looking the same in any supermarket.
As the wind and rain seemed to get colder it meant it was the right time to heat the apple juice WOW wonderful.
Another really great day in our Vale.
