HABITAT IMPROVEMENT 2009
I was reading the "Celebrations for Green Flag at Brinnington Park" It is great to see local people showing such pride in our green spaces.
The regeneration funding has certainly made a big difference to Brinnington Park. What we now need is the funding and the hard work and expertise to bring Reddish Vale Country Park up to the standard where we could feel that the council deserved such an accolade.
The main problem with RVCP is that Habitat Improvements are not being tackled. Considering the improvements to the river quality, the depreciation in woodland birds and in the all-important pond areas is really out of sync with the size and scope of our Country Park.
Times are extremely hard at present and, as always, Reddish Vale takes back seat. Why are we such a deprived area? Our forbears created great wealth for the magnates of the area. The cotton mills attracted workers from the other side of Manchester City Centre. Engineering works peppered the entire area. At one time it was the richest little village in England, and yet those who made fortunes out of the efforts of the working people are gone and we are now "deprived."
Our only wealth is our beautiful Vale. It needs to be cared for before the council claim any credit at all for its splendour.
