Lantern Making 2009

By Mary Dutton

Wow what a very busy half term we at Reddish Vale visitors centre had this week. Along with our usual visitors, you know what I call our regulars, that is our walking groups and local centre visitors, we also had some great visitors coming in in for our what is described as "willow weaving" but was really making lanterns for Brinningtons Lantern Parade. This isn't an advert but people did ask me to remind them. Parade leaves Brinnington First House 6.30ish Saturday 28th March, all welcome oops it did turn into an advert. Not to worry

Tuesday we had loads of people again I have forgot names sorry ! but we ended up making the frames of 7 lanterns phew ! We didnt have time to cover them (no surprise there) but we made up for that on Saurday when familys came in to paper. The Shaw family for one, small world, mum is the cousin of one of my best school friends who moved out of the area some 30 years ago.

Also Bryce (dad) Angela (Mum) and Ellie (oh I think that was young daughters name) were there and must admit Dad did work his socks off helping us finish off the remaining lanterns.

Wednesday "Fat Balls" Well if we had one we must have had well over 30 children along with there parents . We had 3 sittings as one group left another group arrived we made well over 80 yes 80 bird feed balls. Tell you some birds will be eating better than the ducks this week. Oats, bird seed, nuts and fat (except for fat ) we could have sold it as Museli. The second batch had all the above with added peanut butter, it smelled wonderful. So on behalf of Tracy and myself can I say a great big THANK-YOU for making the events as good as they were. In a couple of weeks we are in discussion sound good that doesn't it? About events we are planning for the coming weeks/months so please keep checking the events page on this site. Till I see or speak to you all again keep smiling.
