REDDISH VALE COUNTRY PARK
NATURAL DYES
By Mary Dutton
The Sun was out, the sky was blue but everything else seemed purple?
We had such a great turn out on Wednesday 19th for our annual go at tie dying. Honest I did try to bring a bit a learning into the event explaining about the aztecs and what they used from the earth to brighten their paintings etc. but hey it was suppose to be a fun event and believe me despite a couple of photo's that may say different everyone had a real good if vey messy time. The blackberries were plentiful and sweet.
As you can see the results were wonderful. Because of health and safety blah we just used salt as the mordant (fixer) so wash your tee shirts very carefully. The individual patterns were just wonderful and to see some of the faces of the children and yes some adults as they to as they fought to take there elastic band of and see their pattern come to life was worth all the work that went into making the event the success it was. On that note I would like to thank all who helped you know who you are but most of all I would personally like to thank all the people who came down and got stuck in and purple you all made it. As you all know Phil was there with his camera snapping away thanks Phil as usual some great photos .
Oh how do I know the blackberries were sweet!
I took some home to have on my bran flakes yummy. Although I washed them thoroughly I still hoped they were picked from the top of the bushes.
Keep checking the events page to make sure you dont miss out.
