Well, there's an old kids home around the corner from me - in fact, it's where the tyre dumpers gained access last summer... in fact, if I had to be totally honest, it would make an ideal vets surgery/wildlife sanctuary - we do desperately need both if you try and work out where the nearest vetinary surgeons is from either the Reddish side or the Brinnington side to see why it would make a suitable option.

It's overlooking the Vale too - so any wildlife that would be cared for there could be released on the site - what other vets practice could ever boast that? and the garden is massive - ideal for 'ready to release' animals. It would encourage people to take better care of their pets too - microchipping being an example....

But for the wildlife - it would be an incredible centre for care at the very least. It does need looking into and we can't deny or hide that we do need some place close to the vale to be able to provide additional care for the wildlife. As it is right now, any animal in distress on the Vale can't get the attention it needs quickly enough.

I saw the photos Ted took of the poor bedraggled thrush that was brought in at the end of January. It is now at the Moss Brook Wildlife Rescue Centre in Knutsford. Apparently its wings are not broken so perhaps it has just lost its flight feathers, which will grow again like Muscovy's did. Ted, Margaret and all those who have been following the bird's progress would love to have a rescue centre in Reddish Vale. Many people think that we have this facility aleady that is why they bring animals in o the Visitor Centre. Well maybe one day?

It is interesting that we are discussing paths. Vale user suggests different paths for different users. That is exactly what we have. CYCLISTS for example have the Trans Pennine Trail, some lovely meandering paths around the river below the cemetery, which have the advantage of a clear outlook for both walkers, riders and cyclists, so no one can come up unexpectedly. These areas are shown clearly on the aerial map on the website. There are also rough paths that people with walking disabilities would not want or need to use. These suit people who like fell-walking eg Peak District lovers. Can we remember that in the winter, the countryside is often very muddy. If you like the countryside in winter, you wear boots or wellies. The Country Park is 398 acres. We love and protect every inch of it. Local Government is organised in such a way that pressure groups are essential. I don't know which video you watched because there are so many all showing the beauty of the true inhabitants of the Vale and all worked on painstakingly. People will focus on what they want to see. We who traverse the Vale from end to end, Phil, Alan, Les, Brian etc. are looking for beauty. When we see ugliness, we have to do something about it. The paths are multi-user and those which should be suitable for wheelchairs and push-chairs are being fought for most vigorously at the highest level. If you are interested in the details of this, you can e-mail me for more info. However, if Vale user is thinking of separate Mountain biking tracks (it is just possible) well we ain't biting.

the video you have just watched is not a path, and yes I agree part of it is disgraceful, and yes it is Reddish vale land but is actually in Brinnington, I feel if we are not careful we will talk ourselves out of the vale and invite bulldozers in.

Please nice rocky paths? obviously you have not had to push a wheel chair round. or walk with a stick which is bad enough but rocky no thanks. In all honesty dont we expect mud everywhere this weather. I think it would be a lot better if we all said what we loved about the vale, after all that is why we go. i think if we are not careful we will be putting people off visiting instead of trying to encourage. Yes there are problems as there are everywhere so we write to who it concerns etc., but please let us not be guilty of running down what is after all our wonderful vale.

--- molly119

I have just wathced a video on this website showing the vale in a terrible state. It could be beautiful but I think many parts of it are run down. As to wheel chair access I can say that around 90% of the paths around the vale have poor access on foot never mind a wheelchair. I am not running RV down. To mend problems we have to face the fact that there ARE problems. My email said 'routes'. You could have specific paths for horses, specific for walkers and specific for wheelchairs and prams (I have a young child and would LOVE this). The paths around the vale ARE poor. How can we get them improved?

I would like to see better maps of the Vale shows the walking routes. Many of the paths need to be upgraded to a good standard. They are currently very muddy and slippy to walk on. A nice rocky path would prove to be more challenging like paths in the Peak district.

What is there not to like about the Vale? The only things are the damage done by people. We have listed the many mistakes made, not all of them intentional, of course. Here are a few: The access is poor because the road from South Reddish is dangerously congested. Wardens have allowed people to damage Sunnyside Woods almost beyond repair. This has to be a priority if woodland flora and fauna are to be restored to the area. The ponds have been badly neglected over the years and need to be restored and improved so as to provide a suitable habitat for fish and fowl. There is too much indiscriminate tree felling with "coppicing" having been done in nesting time. Staffing is dire. We have worked for years to improve the staffing levels and the quality of staff. This needs to be tackled at the level where the job descriptions are written. Yes, we have complained about that too. This is just as smattering of the things not liked about the Vale. They amount to one concept: people who do not love the Vale as it deserves to be loved."
