RVCP Local Nature reserve
High Summer again and now the youngsters both avian and human have made a welcome appearance.
Our pond cleaning efforts of the 28th June yielded hundreds of yards of fishing line mostly entangled around the nesting area at the centre of the ponds. There were yards of it caught up in a rather large nest. I could only clip away what was the most exposed parts but the nest will have to be removed. All the line recovered was from areas supposedly protected for wildlife
People who looked at the line recovered were most disturbed by the thickness of it. Is there not some action that the bailiffs can take when they see people fishing with line more suited to catching shark on the open sea?
Supervision and Education are again the most important aspects of this.
Natural England defines Local Nature Reserves thus: "(LNRs) are for both people and wildlife... capable of being managed with the conservation of nature and/or the maintenance of special opportunities for study, research or enjoyment of nature as the priority concern. They range from windswept coastal headlands, ancient woodlands and flower-rich meadows to former inner city railways, long abandoned landfill sites and industrial areas now re-colonised by wildlife."
Stockport Parks and Recreation need to get their priorities right.
